Living in Lithuania makes you a resourceful shopper. Some brands are not available here and others are priced too high for this market. While most things are less expensive in Lithuania then else where, for example, standard factory made printing cartriges are approximately twice as expensive as elsewhere. The solution Amazon.co.uk and Ebay.co.uk
I can usually buy printing cartriges from the UK and have them shipped here very inexpensively. Since Lithuania and the UK are in the EC, there is no import taxes. Most things get sent by Post and we have found the Lithuanian postal service to be very reliable.
Recently we wanted to buy footed pajamas for our baby, as he has worn them all his life. But we found it very difficult to buy them in his size here. Fortunately we could get footed pajamas shipped to us from the UK by using Ebay.co.com. The price, including shipping was approximately what we would have paid locally if we could have found them here.
Unfortunately, not all products available from Ebay and Amazon can be shipped here. But between the two, we are usually able to get many of the hard to find things we need. If you are looking for a English book, by all means consider Bookdepository.com. Book Depository not only ships to Lithuania, they ship for FREE!

Flash Mob In Vilnius, Lithuania
You may not be aware of Flash Mobs, when a group of people suddenly break out in some kind of entertainment, usually a choregraphed dance performance.
Recently there was a Flash Mob Performance at a local Vilnius shopping mall. The performace was excellent, too bad the quality of the video was not better:
Nevertheless, it looked like a wonderful experience for the lucky shoppers who happened to be at the mall. Wish I had been there. If you are happening to organize a flash mob in Vilnius, please tip me off in advance.

Japan To Build A Nuclear Reactor In Lithuania?
Very interesting timing! Apparently Lithuania wants Japanese engineers to build a nuclear reactor in Lithuania!!! According the article in Bloomberg:
"Lithuania is in talks with Japan about cooperation on nuclear energy". Further: Japan “has very high standard of nuclear safety” that would allow Lithuania to meet environmental commitments required by the European Union, Darulis said. Wow! I bet he wishes he could take those words back.
I would certainly hope that this idea is given a bit more consideration as the rest of Europe is looking at decommissioning their nuclear power plants in the wake of Japanese nuclear plant meltdowns.

Taxi Fares In Lithuania
I have written before that to get the best taxi fares in Lithuania call the taxi and don't get into a waiting taxi.
Recently, I met a friend at the Akropolis Shopping Mall, located approximately 9km from the center of Vilnius. I told him to be sure to call and not get a waiting taxi, as the fares would be 3 to 5 times higher.
I told him a taxi ride should cost him between 15-20 Litas. When we arrived, he asked "How much did you say it a taxi ride would cost?"
I told him that our taxi ride had cost 14.50 lta. He told me he spent 45 lta to get there. I asked if he called the taxi as I had advised. He told me that he had asked the hotel reception to call the taxi for him.
Lesson: To get the best taxi fares in Vilnius, call the taxi yourself!
A few taxi numbers and their current fares:
Mercelita phone: 1444 Fares 1.5lta/km in Vilnius 2.5lta/km outside of Vilnius
Ekipaz phone 1446 Fares 1.5 lta/km in Vilnius 2.0lta/km outside of Vilnius
